For the last couple of days in Chicago we have had 15" of snow fall. It's so beautiful how when you look down at the snow you see sparkles and pure white. The trees are covered from head to toe and everything has a nice newness to it. No more grey and brown!!
Yesterday all I wanted to do was go play in it, yet I had no one to play with. So, I sat and watched Rocky 5, Adrianne....and then watched some movie on Jerry Lee Lewis with Wynonna Rider and Dennis Quaid...don't ask, not that great. Took a nap during it. BUT...then Jason called and said, let's do Guiness at the Doodle and then we'll go play in the snow. So, we sat by the fire at the "Noodle/Doodle" and put back a few Guiness (which by the way is my favorite beer now at least one you can get anywhere, Emmett's ruined me to normal beer except for when you are at Cub's games), put some great songs on the juke box, danced, laughed, looked up words in the dictionary and ordered a Tombstone Pepperoni Pizza and a few more Guiness. Funny questions were asked like, "Is the pural of Guiness, Guiness or Guniesses?" But as more people crowded our favorite little area we decided that we were warm enough from the fire and our beer to go play in the snow. We drove to my house, got changed, woke Viv up and took off with two pieces of cardboard, a lunch tray and our neighbor's sled in tow. Sledding hill, here we come!
The sledding hill in which I speak has become legendary to my roommates and I as we watch and here the kids scream their way down it usually on our way to work. "Curses, I want to go sledding!" However this winter has not provided us very many opportunities to investigate this hill. Little did we know it's actually on private property or more truthfully a barrington public resident who happens to be our neighbor. So, up the hill we went with caution and knowledge that screaming at the top of our lungs, "Geronimo!!!" was not aloud. I should have paid attention to the fact that I fell twice in the first trip up the hill due to my uggs which have no amount of traction on the bottom of them. Or at least taken it as a sign of things to come.
Vivian lasted a whole two times. But what a trooper...got out of bed, got dressed and everything all to experience this moment in winter with us. So, it's Jay and I and the two of us are ready to go all night. UNTIL...
"Kristen, you wanna race?" Jay
Now...let us think. Is Kristen the competitive type? NAAAAAAAA......
"Last one to the bottom has to buy breakfast!" Kristen starts down the hill on a slice of cardboard.
"You suck!" Jay races after her with great speed.
Intertwining legs trying to throw the other away, my sled(cardboard) spins me around to face the top of the hill. Backwards I fly and as I get a moment to look behind me I hear,
"watch out, you're about to hit a....."
Thump!
My back smacks the tree hard.
Crash!!!
Jay comes slamming into my body.
Thump!
Wack!
Crunch!
Jay's head forcefully bangs into my jaw and my head once again hits the tree!
"OhhhhhhH! My head!"
"Your head? My face!"
"Yikes that hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........................................................................................ts!!!" As my sled takes off again down the rest of the hill.
I land at the bottom, roll off my sled and lay there right side of my face planted in the snow to try and releave the pounding headache and twingy swelling that is taking place. Jason comes screaming down the hill and we sit there...in pain and cold for what seemed like an eternity. I'm not sure which one of us spoke it first but ,"let's go inside" was all I heard.
Bruised and frozen we carried our tired asses into the house and snow clothes flew everywhere. All I could do was lay down on the couch and wine like a baby. My cheek felt like the size of a softball and my teeth were aching. I found a bottle of Ibeprofin and popped 4 as I handed Jay 3. I knew out of the two of us, my pain was worse. He looked at my face and started apologizing. We both couldn't think of a better thing to do than get a hot cup of cocoa with coco bacardi and snuggle with packs of frozen peas on our heads. Instead, sleep came quickly and I woke up this morning with a bruised face and an aching back. I totally forgot about my back hitting the tree! I kind of look like I had my wisdom teeth pulled on one side of my face or a little chipmunk with nuts stuck up in there. Cute, no. Funny, yes.
All in all it was a terrific night!
Lots of fun on the sledding hill!
Warm fire, good company and great conversation at The Noodle Doodle!
AND Tonight!!!!!!! I went and indulged myself in a second viewing of the Phantom of the Opera with my mom this time. She loved it almost as much as I did. God help me!
