Venetian Night!
Friday night, we're down town Chicago for dinner @ Flat Topand to visit the lake to watch the boats come in with all of their decorations and fun!
Make sure to get there early for all the spots near the water where you can actually see the boats up close are gone after 6:00
Seat Taken...
So, we stood near the port-a-potties. Wrong idea! For as we stood there the smell that came emanating forth was so bad that Jeff made songs up about it. Eric decided he just couldn't take it any longer so he left. Then, we looked down the way and saw that there were actual people sitting on top of these so called bathrooms! Yes, it's true, people will find any way to be above the crowd and this seemed to be the latest discovery. Brandon would have jumped up and joined them but for a bumb shoulder! Plus, we thought the movie out to the finish and saw someone knocking one over and so on and so forth!!!
Not such a great idea. After giving up on the port-a-potties, Brandon joined Eric at our blankets.
The funniest part of the boat show was two part. First, watching Megan and Jeff waft my cigarette smoke towards their faces to make the smell not seem so bad. The second was when the beer guy (some dude who bought extra beer) came buy and sold us Heineken's for $3.00 a pop. We snatched those up like flies on poop. ("he called the shit, poop!") Not only were they good for refreshment, but we used them to cool ourselves down.
Ever put an ice cold Heineken on your neck? Try it sometime...It's GGGGGGGGGGREAT!
So, after cheering for the boats we went back to our blankets and waited for the fireworks to begin.
It was incredible. Jeffrey in all his genius, bought a boom box/ghetto blaster that works in conjunction to his i-pod. So, we had surround sound for this event. And I'll tell you what, XRT definitely knows how to put on a fantastic fireworks display. Brandon said it was the best he's ever seen! I would agree except for the fact that I've seen fireworks with the Rockie Mountains in the background and the reflection off of the water. Try that one on for size...SHOOT dawg!
All in all, the night was a hit! Megan bought a man dinner, we saw most of millennium Park, showed the kids Boys Town on our way to Lincoln Park and tried for almost an hour to find parking to sleep downtown only to turn all the way around and drive back to Crystal Lake. Thus began our day of disappointments. But that's for another post at another time. Tomorrow perhaps.
This post...is to remind you to plan Venetian Night as a MUST DO on your list of things to do when in Chicago in the summertime list.
P.S. Those of you awaiting the Scrooge story, it's coming along nicely and will be posted sooner than later.
Thanks for the support.
P.S.S. I hear Alan Thick is coming back to ABC. Beginning Aug. 9th.
"Thanks Anonymous!" she says, smiling!
