Phantom of the Opera

what a night...Last night, I went on a date. He told me to pick the movie so I go and pick PHANTOM OF THE OPERA First off; total tangent to the more important piece I want to write about; who takes a girl to a movie on their first date? It's not the very best place to "get to know one another." Second of all, I know that Phantom wasn't probably the best choice, but I wanted to see it, and I love musicals and if some boy is going to know me, they need to know this about me. Third, he was super bored the entire time. And I quote, "Why do they have to sing EVERYTHING?" Oh where's Geoffrey or Nathan or Jimmy for that matter, when I need them?
Ok, so yeah...THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA...
Growing up, my mom used to rent every musical she could find and make me watch them with her. It took all of 2 showings before I began asking her when our next musical evening would be! I love musical theater. My first live performance was cats and boy was it amazing. The actors danced through the audience and at intermission we got to go on stage and the cats were hiding in corners and would paw at you and what not. Such beautiful costuming and in my opinion not a shabby way to begin a love affair. And since that evening, I have seen many many others as well as performed in a few. Pictures to follow, one day...
But, last night I was reminded of the power of movies. For, I finally understood the whole story. Or maybe it was that they retold a story that was never part of the musical. I haven't done the research yet. I can tell you this though. What a love story! What a story of confusion and artistic genius. Of what love can really look like. Of seeing beyond a man's wretchedness into his soul. Of humanity. The Beast, the hunchback, the bitch, the gargoyle inside us all who longs to be set free. To be loved. To love. It's the ugly duckling. Or the swan princess, or Shrek or thousands of other stories.
Oh, but the music. Andrew Lloyd Weber could you please write a musical about my life? When Jimmy and I dated we always joked about how when we got married we would write every famous artist we loved and ask them if we paid for their logging, flight and what not, would they come play at a lowly wedding? SERIOUSLY...we were going to do it. And Andrew Lloyd Weber would be on that list if that list still existed. And what about our little Emmy Rossum? WOAH...what a voice! And Gerrald Butler? AMAZING...Phantom of the Opera The aches I felt in my chest were only strange to feel because I was sitting next to someone I barely know. Mike was watching me during the movie and so tears had a hard time showing up to, but there were moments when this emo girl couldn't help it. This post is taking longer to write now that I have found the website to the movie and the show. I think I may have found an obcession! Seriously though, go watch it....and I believe if I can, I'm going to add this badge to my webpage...If it's possible...I have offically regained the title of musical geek!!! YEAH~
